On July 13, 2018, the Federal Communications Commission released a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) proposing to update the children’s television programming rules. The Commission set deadlines for filing comments and reply comments at 60 and 90 days, respectively, after publication of the NPRM in the Federal Register.

The FCC is requited to compile a Communications Marketplace Report to assess the state of competition in the communications marketplace, including competition to deliver audio service among broadcast stations, satellite radio, and entities that provide audio content via the internet and to mobile devices.The FCC is seeking input on the state of competition in the marketplace for the delivery of audio programming as it would relate to the overall goal of providing the required Communications Marketplace Report to Congress. This Public Notice requests comment on the criteria or metrics that could be used to evaluate the state of competition in the audio programming marketplace, as well as comment and information on industry data,competitive dynamics, and trending factors.
The FCC announced that the Next Gen TV local simulcasting rules are now in effect. Applications for Next Gen TV will be available beginning in 2019.
The FCC seeks to identify potential opportunities for additional terrestrial use — particularly for wireless broadband services — of 500 megahertz of mid-band spectrum between 3.7-4.2 GHz. In doing so, they propose to add a mobile, except aeronautical mobile, allocation to the band and seek comment on transitioning all or part of the band to terrestrial wireless broadband services.
